HIIT ME BABY ONE MORE TIME!

September 8, 2016 10:02 am

Let’s face it, we all lead busy lives and it’s all too easy to get bogged down
with the daily grind as we struggle to balance work, childcare and - dare we
say it - leisure time. As a result, it’s usually exercise that gets put on the
back-burner. Not everyone can afford the luxury of two-hour gym sessions or
10k park runs every weekend. This is where high-intensity interval training
(HIIT) is super helpful.

For those of you interested in giving it a shot, here’s the lowdown on the
workout that has got the fitness industry buzzing…

Burn baby burn
HIIT is one of the most effective training methods for burning fat. It boosts
your metabolism, makes you super fit by improving your cardiovascular fitness
and fires up your fat burners like nothing else. Regular HIIT workouts will
make you fitter, stronger and leaner – your energy levels will also rocket!

Achieve plenty in 20
HIIT is made for people with a busy schedule. You only need to set aside
around 20 minutes a day for a session, whether you do one before work, hammer
out a quick HIIT at lunch, or train last thing in the evening after you’ve
finished the washing up. Whatever time you choose to squeeze it in, you will
feel awesome afterwards – guaranteed!
HIIT involves short, intense bursts of exercise, followed by recovery periods
of low-intensity activity or rest. Cardio workouts and strength routines both
qualify and for those of you who like to mix it up, you can combine the two.
Say hello to a fitter and leaner you!

Not just for gym bunnies
One of the best and most convenient things about HIIT is you can do it in your
own home – or anywhere you can find a space! You don’t need a gym, or even any
equipment. You can smash a session with a mix of body weight exercises such as
high knees, burpees, press-ups, mountain climbers and sit-ups. As well as some
kick-ass motivation, all you really need is a workout space and a timer and
you’re good to go!

Bye bye calories!
HIIT will have you burning calories for hours after you have finished your
workout. This is known as the after-burn effect. During this time your
metabolic rate is boosted, so your body continues to burn more calories and
more fat. Any form of exercise that allows you to burn calories while enjoying
a matcha tea latte is pretty darn good in our books!
