Recent foodie bloggers’ Filmore reviews!January 18, 2018 1:31 pm
Here at Filmore & Union we love hearing and reading customer reviews, especially when they come from influential foodie bloggers who know their stuff when it comes to their local food and drink scene.
Here are some recent blogs we’ve been featured in to give you a taster…
York on a Fork
After re-opening the doors of our first ever Filmore & Union after a £100,000 refurbishment back in November, we were so excited to see people’s reaction! Food blogger York on a Fork had visited our York Patergate restaurant before the revamp, so it was great to hear that he felt the food and ambience had gone up a notch:
“While I’m clearly a meat eater, that’s certainly not to the exclusion of all else, so I succumbed to intrigue when ordering the walnut pâté which was served with beetroot crackers, pickled radish and a sweet kumquat marmalade. The relatively unusual combination worked well as the beetroot let the tangy marmalade and savoury pâté face off against one another toward an admirable truce.”
“To finish the meal, we shared a vegan peanut butter cheesecake that hadn’t lost any of the appropriate sense of indulgence along with its dairy ingredients. Plenty of peanut came through and the right texture was present and correct.”

We recently re-vamped our junior menu to ensure there’s something that everyone’s little one will love that is healthy and delicious. Harrogate Mama, a lifestyle blogger from, you guessed it, Harrogate, came to try out our junior menu with Harrogate Nana and her ‘smalls’. She said:
“It’s great for kids with special dietary requirements including gluten free and dairy free dishes, and everything on the menu can be adapted for those with allergies or other requirements.”
“The menu is just big enough and designed with dishes your children would actually choose on it too! There was quite some wavering over the Mini Pancakes with banana, strawberries and maple syrup and the Sweet Pizza, with chocolate, peanut butter and banana too!”
“We loved our lunch, all ate it all, and we’ll definitely be back!”

Our newest Jesmond restaurant has had a lot of attention since it opened in December – which is amazing! We love our newest venue and it turns out, so does vegan food blogger Canny Food! In fact, she loved it so much, she included us in Vegan Restaurant Week 8-14th January. Here’s some of what she had to say:
“There’s clear labelling, which makes it so much easier for a vegan like myself. There are also gluten-free options available.”
“I opted for the vegan version of The Bench Press, which came with a sweetcorn and chickpea cake. I found this quinoa salad Buddha Bowl surprisingly filling.”
“We enjoyed our lunch and we’ll definitely be returning.”

New Girl in Toon
Another Geordie blogger reviewed us in her ‘healthy places to eat in Newcastle’ blog which was aimed at trying to help people who wanted to get healthy in January 2018: “Simon and I first discovered Filmore & Union on our staycation in Harrogate last year and I left sulking that we didn’t have a restaurant in the Toon.”
“Serving up seasonal fresh produce sourced from local suppliers, the food is real and fresh, and I can’t wait to get my fix without having to leave Newcastle.”

“What you’ll notice from the off is that the menu is very clearly labelled with its gluten free, dairy free, vegan and vegetarian options – perfect for navigating what suits your dietary requirements.”
“Good news is that Filmore & Union also serves a scrummy selection of gluten free cakes, baked down in Yorkshire and delivered to the Jesmond cafe daily.”
“Having been established now for more than six years, Filmore & Union definitely seems to be coming into its own, tapping into these ever-popular, aspirational lifestyle choices.”
