Sharing wisdom and wellness with the children of Leeds

Wouldn’t it be great if the summer holidays actually meant that we got a ‘summer’?! Unfortunately, the weather isn’t always on our side so we like to be armed with lots of activities to keep our junior Filmorites entertained without the need for a television or mini screens! Encouraging children to adopt a healthy lifestyle is one of our greatest passions; from showing them the benefit of the food they eat or getting creative with fun activities they can do at home to promote wellness, we just love putting their imaginative minds to good use! As part of our summer holidays fun, we hosted a free health-driven summer school on August 26th with our partner John Lewis in Leeds to show children that staying active is about feeling good on the inside, and not what you look like on the outside which tends to be the message from the media.

14 lovely children local to the Leeds area attended our summer school where we started the afternoon with Chapel Allerton-based Yoga Kula for a relaxing yoga session; sharing her wisdom on different breathing techniques and poses to encourage a calm atmosphere worked a charm – and we’re sure is something the parents will be happily introducing at home!

After finding their zen, we made some healthy rocky road under the watchful eye of nutritional consultant Melanie Hadida. Our junior yogis loved getting creative with their toppings with many opting for fruit, nuts and seeds they had never tried before (much to the surprise of their parents!). It was great to see their enthusiasm for healthy alternatives and their eagerness to get inventive with different flavours. Melanie also incorporated a fun foodie quiz into her session, encouraging the children to share their knowledge about healthy nutrition and pass recipe ideas between themselves of their favourite dishes.

We’d love to keep in touch with the children and hope to see them in our Filmore and Union sites ordering confidently from our Junior Menu!
